Canon’s New imagePROGRAF GP Series: Production Wide-Format Printing, Redefined

Canon’s newest large-format lineup — the imagePROGRAF GP-2600S, GP-4600S, and GP-6600S — is built specifically for production signage and advertising, with a re-engineered ink system and faster, smarter media handling. Here’s what’s new and who it’s for.

If your business produces signage, banners, posters, or point-of-purchase graphics at any real volume, the printer doing that work has a direct impact on how much you can take on and how consistent the output looks job after job. Canon’s imagePROGRAF GP S Series — available in three widths — was built around exactly that: quality, quantity, and speed working together instead of trading off against each other.

Three Sizes, One Engine

The GP Series comes in three widths, so the right fit depends on the scale of what you’re producing rather than settling for a one-size-fits-all machine:

ModelMax Print WidthMultifunction Roll Unit
imagePROGRAF GP-2600S24″ (610 mm)Optional
imagePROGRAF GP-4600S44″ (1,118 mm)Optional
imagePROGRAF GP-6600S60″ (1,524 mm)Standard, included

All three share the same core engine — the same LUCIA PRO II ink set, the same L-COA PRO processor, and the same intelligent media handling — so moving between sizes as your production needs grow doesn’t mean relearning a workflow.

A Re-Engineered Ink System

The GP Series ships with Canon’s re-developed 7-color LUCIA PRO II ink set — MBK, PBK, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Gray, and Orange — designed to close the gap between what a proof looks like on screen and what actually comes off the printer:

  • Accurate, wide-gamut color — including noticeably better performance in dark, shadowed areas that are historically hard to reproduce.
  • 96% of the PANTONE Formula Guide Solid Coated color gamut, tested on Premium Semi-Glossy Paper 2.
  • High scratch resistance and light-resistant pigment ink, so finished pieces hold up during handling, installation, and extended display.
  • Orange and Matte Black carried over from Canon’s GP-4000/2000 line to keep vivid, eye-catching prints consistent across projects.

Built to Move Faster, Not Just Print Bigger

Speed on a production floor isn’t just print speed — it’s everything around the print job that either saves time or eats into it. The GP Series addresses both:

L-COA PRO Processor

Faster print speeds without sacrificing the color accuracy and black density the LUCIA PRO II ink set is built to deliver.

🔄

Intelligent Media Handling

Automatic media feeding, plus automatic detection of media type, width, and length — reducing setup time and waste versus prior imagePROGRAF PRO S models.

📦

Hot-Swap Ink Tanks

Replace ink without pausing a job, with tank levels and media status visible right on the home screen and through translucent covers.

Color Calibration

Built-in calibration keeps output consistent over time — and consistent across multiple GP Series machines, if you’re running more than one.

The GP-6600S ships with the multifunction roll unit standard, and it’s available as an option on the GP-4600S and GP-2600S — useful for shops running dual-roll or automated finishing workflows without needing to babysit media changes.

Where These Printers Fit

Canon built the GP Series around the kind of work that fills a production print queue day to day: pull-up banners, lawn signs, stickers, directional signage, indoor adhesive wall graphics, general posters, and point-of-sale displays. It’s also EPEAT Gold and ENERGY STAR certified, which matters for shops with sustainability commitments or procurement requirements tied to those standards.

Curious whether a GP-2600S, GP-4600S, or GP-6600S fits your production volume — or want to see how it compares to what you’re running now? We can walk through specs, sizing, and service options together.
