Canon imagePROGRAF TX Series: Meet the TX-3300, TX-4300 and TX-1300 MFP
Canon’s current TX lineup for CAD, engineering and poster work — up to 199 D-size prints an hour, borderless on every roll size, and color that holds steady across every machine on the network.
If your work runs on D-size drawings, site plans and plain-paper posters, the imagePROGRAF TX line is the part of Canon’s wide-format catalog built for you — pigment ink, fast throughput, and a machine that doesn’t need babysitting between jobs.
The current lineup is three models: the TX-3300 at 36 inches, the TX-4300 at 44 inches, and the TX-1300 MFP Z36, a 36-inch model with an integrated scanner for shops that copy and archive as much as they print.
Here’s what each one is, what changed in this generation, and how it stacks up against the machines a lot of Central Indiana firms are still running.
The lineup
Three models, one ink system
All three run Canon’s LUCIA TD 5-color pigment ink. Pigment is the right answer for technical work: it resists water, holds crisp line reproduction, and survives a rolled-up tube in the bed of a truck on the way to a job site. The differences between models come down to width, scanning and ink capacity.

Print speeds measured on plain paper in Fast Q5 mode, per Canon’s published figures. Actual speed varies with size, media type, orientation and job settings.
What changed
Six things this generation does that the last one didn’t
Ink ejection status monitoring
A droplet sensor watches the printhead as it works. If a nozzle clogs, the printer corrects ink placement rather than handing you a flawed print you don’t notice until the tube is already at the job site. Standard on the TX-3300 and TX-4300.
Automatic color calibration
Calibration keeps color consistent print to print, and consistent across every TX-1300, TX-3300 and TX-4300 on your network. If a reprint has to match a set produced three weeks ago, or two machines have to produce the same sheet, this is the feature doing that work.
Reformulated high-density matte black
The current series uses a denser matte black than previous TX generations, producing sharper line work and better poster reproduction on plain poster paper — the two things a technical printer gets judged on.
Intelligent media handling
On the TX-3300 and TX-4300 you drop the roll on the spindle and set it in the printer. On the TX-1300 you feed the leading edge. Either way the printer identifies media type and width and estimates how much is left on the roll — no menu diving, no guessing whether a long job will run out halfway.
Semi-translucent covers
The media cover lets you see at a glance whether a roll is loaded, and the Media Measurement Guide tells you which one without walking to the control panel. On the TX-3300 and TX-4300 the ink tank covers are semi-translucent too, so a blinking low-ink light is visible across the room.
Borderless on every roll size
Earlier TX and iPF generations offered borderless on select sizes only. The current series does it on all roll sizes, which is what makes in-house poster production practical instead of something you trim by hand or send out.
Then and now
How it compares to what you may be running
Plenty of firms around Indianapolis are still printing on an iPF825 or a first-generation TX-4000, and both still put ink on paper. The gap is worth seeing laid out — particularly the last row, which shows up on a utility bill every month.

The short version: roughly 75% more prints per hour than an iPF825, at well under half the power draw, with borderless on every size instead of a few, and color calibration that simply didn’t exist on the earlier machines.
Who it’s for
Where the TX Series fits
- Architecture, engineering and construction. D-size drawing sets, revisions on deadline, and line work that has to stay legible after a plan gets folded, rolled and rained on.
- Municipal and GIS work. Large-format maps and plats where dimensional accuracy and repeatable color matter more than gallery-grade photo output.
- In-house poster production. Borderless on all roll sizes plus the denser matte black makes plain-paper posters something you print Thursday afternoon rather than order Monday and wait on.
- Offices that scan as much as they print. The TX-1300 MFP Z36 puts a 36-inch scanner on the same footprint, which matters if you’re digitizing an archive of old drawings.
